Varsity Boys Head Coach
Alex Monroe
Coach Monroe graduated from Mifflin County in 2010. He was All-State in Cross Country and Track & Field. In Indoor Track & Field, he was runner-up in the 3k and in Outdoor Track & Field he placed 3rd in the 3200m. His time of 9:07 still stands as the county record.

After graduation he attended Lock Haven University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science. He was a 6 time All American and as a Cross Country Runner finished 3rd at Nationals. While at Lock Haven, he was a member of the Junior U.S. team and won a silver medal in the 10,000m at the Pan Am Games in 2011.
Upon graduating from Lock Haven, he moved to Boulder, CO to train full time. During this time his athletic accomplishments include 2 US teams (medalist 2011 Junior Pan Am Games and 10th 2016 Great Edinburgh XC Challenge), 2 Olympic Trials (2016/2020), PRs of 13:36 for 5k, 28:17 for 10k, 1:01.50 for Half Marathon, and 2:14.15 for Marathon.

According to Coach Monroe, “It's a full circle moment for me to give back to a program that gave so much to me. Mifflin County has a rich history in distance running, and that is a testament to the coaches and athletes before me. Greg Loht has worked quietly to develop good distance runners (and better people), and I believe he is one of the best in the business. My vision for the team is to build upon the already sturdy legs it has. Big shoes to fill means more room for growth, and I believe we have our best and most successful years ahead.”
Varsity Girls Head Coach
Neil Breneman
Coach Neil grew up in Lancaster County, PA and has lived in Lewistown with his family since 2016. He is married to Catie who is a teacher in the Mifflin County School District and has three children, Luke, Logan, and Layla. Neil was a farm boy as a child through his teenage years choosing to work rather than experience high school athletics like running. In the past 5 years he has devoted himself to learning about running by devouring books from the best coaches and getting out and doing plenty of running himself; including running 1,800 miles in one year. After serving two years as an assistant coach in Cross Country, he is excited for the opportunity to be the girls Cross Country head coach beginning in the 2021 season. He has also volunteer coached in indoor and outdoor Track and Field.
Coach Neil has extensive experience working with the development of youth and is passionate about their overall development. He understands many of the challenges that junior/senior high school girls face and wants to support and encourage them as they become young women. He desires to develop character, discipline, and confidence in each of the young women he coaches and to help them create and accomplish their personal goals. He loves to encourage the athletes so you will often see him running with them at practice and moving around cheering them on during competition. Coach Neil is excited to build the Huskies Cross Country program and to bring out the best in each member of the team!
